Peter Hobson, Ph.D.

Dr. Hobson will speak with us on the nature and status of psychoanalytic knowledge. Does it (as some would express) belong to a non-scientific domain of meanings, not ‘facts’?  Or is that knowledge of facts at the core of the psychoanalytic enterprise founded upon a knower’s particular relation with psychoanalytic objects of knowledge? Dr. Hobson will consider the facts of transference and countertransference, projective identification and the paranoid-schizoid position from this perspective.

Peter Hobson, Ph.D.

Professor Peter Hobson, emeritus professor of Developmental Psychopathology at University College, London, is a practicing psychoanalyst in Santa Rosa, CA and a member of the faculty at SFCP.  His research interests include integrating social expeerience, neuroscience and psychoanalysis. He is the author of "The Cradle of Thought: Expoloring the Origins of Thinking" and is known for his work on autism.
